As a global journalist and war correspondent, I was privileged to cover some of the momentous events of our times, including the Persian Gulf War, the Soviet War in Afghanistan, the Refugee Crisis in Kurdistan, Apartheid in Africa, Cocaine Wars in South America, revolution in Central America, the slave trade in Asia and beyond.
At the height of my career, a broken back and failed surgery left me disabled, in a body brace and heavily medicated. I was unable to sit up for a meal and had to walk with a cane. Despite heavy medications, the physical and emotion pain was non-stop.
Stage IV cancer then sent me into addiction, depression and despair.
Nearing death, I entered an experimental program that blended modern holistic mind/body medicine with ancient eastern healing modalities. This led me to the deeper practices of Vedic Science, including Yoga and its sister science of Ayurveda (the Science of Life). Through these holistic methods I slowly healed, found a new life and chosen to write and teach with the pen name Bhava Ram (living from the heart) as a source of inspiration and ongoing commitment.
Since healing, I have devoted my life to sharing mind/body self-healing with clients and students worldwide through trainings, workshops, retreats and consultations. I've been honored to lectured and teach at the Kripalu Center, Omega Institute, Chopra Center and with Dr. Emmett Miller, the father of mind/body medicine in America.
I am certified by the Kerala Ayurveda Academy as an Ayurvedic Wellness Counselor and by the American Institute of Vedic Studies as an advanced Ayurveda and Yoga Practitioner.
